Football Prediction Probabilities vs Odds: What the Numbers Mean
Understand football prediction percentages, decimal odds and bookmaker margins with an original Telegram screenshot and simple, clearly labelled examples.

Original supplied MAD Football Sweden–Poland Telegram screenshot, unchanged. Archived model estimates, not a forecast for today’s fixtures.
A football prediction percentage and a bookmaker price describe different things. Understanding the difference helps you read a match report without mistaking a confident-looking number for a guaranteed outcome.
Why this question matters during the Nations League window
UEFA's current schedule lists Czechia–England and Spain–Croatia on 29 September 2026. These fixtures provide a timely reason to understand the numbers beside a match, but this article does not issue a forecast or quote current odds for either game. Check the official UEFA fixture list for the schedule.
What a software probability means
A model percentage is an estimate produced by a particular system. It is not the same as the percentage of previous predictions that won. A model assigning 60% to an outcome can still be wrong on that individual match; judging its quality requires a substantial, dated record rather than one result.

The report shows 63.2% for the home win, 20.0% for the draw and 16.7% for the away win. Their 99.9% total is consistent with rounding. The 2–0 score above them is a separate score scenario: 63.2% is not its exact-score probability. The image does not establish when the forecast was issued or validate its calibration.

Convert decimal odds into implied probability
The calculation is 100 ÷ decimal odds. Smarkets documents this conversion in its implied-probability explanation.
For illustration only, odds of 2.00 imply 50%, 2.50 imply 40%, and 1.60 imply 62.5%. These are invented teaching prices, not available offers for any named fixture. The conversion gives the break-even probability before fees under ordinary win-or-lose settlement; it does not reveal the event's true chance.
Do not read decimal odds of 2.50 as a 25% probability or as a prediction that 2.5 goals will be scored. The same number can mean something entirely different in a price field and a goals-market label.
Why the full market matters
Consider an illustrative three-outcome market with home, draw and away prices of 2.00, 3.50 and 4.00. The implied figures are 50%, 28.57% and 25%: together approximately 103.57%. That excess above 100% is called the overround. Smarkets explains the relationship in its guide to betting odds.
One price alone cannot tell you the overround of the whole market. Dividing each implied figure by their total is a simple proportional adjustment, but it still does not produce verified true probabilities. Prices may also change, and exchange commission or different settlement terms can affect the comparison.
A disagreement is a reason to check, not proof of an advantage
If software and market prices disagree, first check whether they concern the same event: home versus away, full time versus half time, and regulation time versus a qualification market. Then check when both numbers were recorded. Comparing an old forecast with a later price can be misleading.
The screenshot above does not contain contemporaneous market prices. It therefore cannot demonstrate a pricing advantage. Nor does a single successful result prove that its estimated probability was accurate. Keep all forecasts, including losses, with timestamps and consistent market definitions before drawing performance conclusions.
Use the right tool and keep the records separate
MAD Football Telegram access is a paid service for exploring available reports in a private bot chat. Review its demonstration, coverage and manual activation terms before purchasing. The free website predictions use a separate website model; their track record does not establish the paid bot's performance.
